Creating a Research Project was an integral part of the Honors 181 course. I chose to research medical provider burnout . Medical provider burnout is a serious and growing problem in the United States.  It occurs when the provider is completely drained of their resources, whether it is physical or emotional. They can no longer practice to their fullest and are running on ‘low battery’. The origins of medical burnout can originate from the workload, especially excessive charting/clerical work, and/or workplace environment, as well as circumstances in the provider’s personal life.  Dr. Drummond described the three symptoms of burnout to watch for as: exhaustion, depersonalization, and lack of efficacy. This leads to lack in quality of care, loss in time, frustration, exhausting, depression, and in some cases death.

This is an important topic for me. I am a college student that is preparing to enter into medical school. This topic was of interest to me and it is useful for me now and in the future. Medical provider burnout impacts everyone on all levels. During the process of the research project, the importance took on a whole new light for me. I have discovered a love for education and research.

I have included links to the research paper and bibliography, the research methods that I used, and the research blog.
